The nearest town of Blanzac, about 10 minutes away, provides all the basics. It has a handy supermarket, small outdoor market on Saturday mornings for fresh vegetables and other local produce and a fabulous boulangerie selling a delicious selection of breads and pastries. There is also a Post Office and friendly local restaurant/bar where English is spoken.

Barbezieux is situated 15 minutes away offering more extensive but similar facilities to Blanzac. There is a delightful outdoor market every Tuesday morning in the town centre. The town also has an open-air swimming pool, which is perfect for families.

The small city of Angoulême is approximately 20 minutes away and provides a larger selection of shops, (including several hypermarkets), restaurants and bars. It is a medieval walled city with a picturesque town centre, open-air market and a fascinating film and cartoon museum. Angoulême also has a charming lake suitable for sunbathing, swimming and boating. There is also a large leisure centre with a spa close to the lake offering a fun day out for children and adults.
